Hundreds of options within each of those 99 subtypes. Kiesel sells 26 basic guitar types, and 99 variations (7, 8, multi-scale, bigsby, etc.) of those 26 types. It's been a while, so don't recall the models, nor am I sure what the construction of the bindings were, as I tend to prefer non-bound, rounded-edge, solid body styles. IIRC, I have spec'd out some of their guitars in the past via the online pick-list where bindings were an option. The resale value is good Kiesel models and pretty average on the models left over from Carvin. I also like correcting people who have bad info or are misinformed. I also like other high end guitars that I own. They innovate in wood options and finishing.Īgain how much is a Knaggs/Parker/Vigier? Is your answer "significantly more"? Carbon fiber rods and stainless steel frets are STANDARD on all Kiesels including the $949 Bolt. Cali burst finishes, custom color matching, arctic finish. Filling burl tops with burl instead of resin or epoxy. MASS PRODUCED? LOLOLOLOL you have no idea dude. You think they just slap together pre-made parts like Warmoth? Just watch a factory tour there are so many of those on youtube. Just look at the NAMM coverage/booth popularity. I could make the argument that Strandberg is riding Kiesels wave at this point. They tweaked multiscale to perfection and made it affordable. If theyre angled the pole pieces arent aligned, if not then the birdge pickup is not in the optimal spot for low strings. How many other multiscale guitar have pickups made specifically to follow the scale length? Even strandberg just throws in standard pickups. The innovation is mostly in price and options. How much is a Novax? Kiesel can get you a multiscale for like $1200 made in the US with the parallel fret in the optimum location and the scale lengths are just right (25.5-26.5 for 6 string). But resale is bad- that is a fact- on almost all of their guitars, maybe excluding the vader and holdsworth. I'm not bashing on the quality of what they make. Vigier was doing that in 1989 and I'm sure they're not the first. They definitely did not pioneer carbon fiber rods either. Parker had stainless frets as standard in the 90s, don't know when Kiesel/Carvin started that but I've definitely played some 90's Carvins that did not have them. I have no idea what you mean by wood and finish innovation, the body bevel to show the laminations stuff had already been explored by Daion in the 80's and is a direct rip-off of what Knaggs was doing a few years ago. Custom shop? It's legos for guitars, they put together what you want out of stuff that they've already made, I guess that depends upon your definition of 'custom shop' but IMO they're a just a mass produced guitar with a few options you can choose from. Please don't pretend they have innovated there at all. Kiesel is like three decades (minimum) late on multiscale (Novax?) and riding the Strandberg wave.

Part of the value of a Kiesel/carvin guitar is that you get to pick the options and colors, which, if it's not pretty standard stuff, only has value to you when ordering and has a negative effect on resale the farther off course you go. Whether you like it or not, resale value is to some extent an indicator of actual (real) value. There is a real chance I will take this down as this bass is ridiculous so get it will you can because I would like to keep it.Yes, IMO Suhr is a copycat brand as well.

I will give strong consideration to a Sadowsky Satin series Modern or PJ and a Dingwall 3x.

I will be very picky as I am not really looking to pick up another bass that I will probably have to sell. I would need to see at least $2000 in a trade so looking at basses in the $2500-3000 range.

I will consider trades plus a considerable amount of cash. I have owned several MTD 535's and this is the nicest one I have owned. I also bought a Dingwall Z series right after so I have to sell something. I actually think it was purchased in 2020 but not 100% sure. I recently bought this off a collector who bought it new from Bass San Diego last year. Selling my absolutely mint condition MTD 535-24.
